Challenge the Wild: Take Me Team Raises £3,262 for Charity

At Take Me, we believe in supporting our communities, giving back to important causes and stepping outside our comfort zones when it matters most. To support Hope Against Cancer as our Charity of the Year, members of the Take Me team took on Challenge the Wild, raising vital funds for cancer research while pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Lake District, the weekend saw participants tackle demanding hikes, scrambling, abseiling and river jumps. It was a true test of determination and resilience, but the teamwork, camaraderie and shared sense of achievement made the experience one to remember.

What is Challenge the Wild?

Challenge the Wild is a two-day outdoor fundraising event designed to test both physical and mental strength. Participants complete a range of demanding activities including long-distance walking, scrambling over rocks, river crossings, abseiling and camping outdoors.

Unlike a race, the event is all about teamwork. Everyone supports one another throughout the journey, regardless of fitness level or previous outdoor experience.

The challenge brings together businesses, organisations and individuals from across the region, all working towards the same goal of raising money for Hope Against Cancer.

Take Me Proudly Accepted the Challenge

Representing Take Me were Chris, Jodie, Ashley,  Andy, and Gareth. Each volunteer gave up their own personal time to take part, knowing that every step would help raise valuable funds for charity.

Although several members had prepared beforehand with walking and fitness training, nobody expected just how demanding the weekend would become.

The weather was far warmer than expected, with temperatures reaching the high 30s. The combination of heat, steep climbs and difficult terrain made every stage of Challenge the Wild even tougher.

Despite this, the team kept encouraging one another from start to finish.

A Weekend Full of Teamwork

One of the biggest talking points after Challenge the Wild was the incredible team spirit.

Participants from many different companies joined the event, including businesses from various industries. Although many had never met before, friendships quickly formed as everyone worked together through every obstacle.

Whether someone needed encouragement climbing a hill, support crossing difficult ground or simply a few kind words after a long walk, there was always somebody ready to help.

This strong sense of teamwork became one of the most rewarding parts of the weekend.

Stepping Outside Comfort Zones

Every member of the team faced a personal challenge during Challenge the Wild.

For Andy, the biggest test came from scrambling across rocky terrain rather than simply walking. While he had prepared with regular hikes, the steep climbs and technical sections were completely different from anything he had trained for.

Chris admitted that camping was well outside his comfort zone. As someone who enjoys the comforts of home, spending two nights outdoors was a major achievement in itself.

Jodie also faced one of her biggest personal challenges. Although she has completed parachute jumps and bungee jumps in the past, she found the abseiling section unexpectedly difficult. Despite making two attempts, fear got the better of her on the day.

Rather than seeing this as failure, the experience showed that everyone has different challenges to overcome. Challenge the Wild is about trying your best and supporting others, not simply completing every activity.

Facing the Outdoor Challenges

The activities during Challenge the Wild pushed everyone beyond their normal routines.

Participants tackled:

  • Long-distance hikes across the Lake District.
  • Rocky scrambling sections.
  • River crossings.
  • Outdoor camping.
  • Abseiling challenges.
  • Team-based survival activities.

Some participants experienced blisters, tired legs and a few slips along the way, but thankfully there were no serious injuries.

Every obstacle became another opportunity to encourage one another and continue moving forward together.

Building New Friendships

One of the unexpected highlights of Challenge the Wild was meeting people from other businesses.

Throughout the weekend, everyone quickly forgot about job titles and company names.

Instead, participants became one team with one shared purpose.

The Take Me team spoke highly of the encouragement they received from others during the challenge. Many of those friendships have continued well beyond the event itself.

Events like this remind us that charity has an incredible way of bringing people together.

Raising Money for Hope Against Cancer

The most important result from Challenge the Wild was the money raised for Hope Against Cancer.

The event successfully raised an outstanding £15,600 overall.

The Take Me team alone contributed an impressive £3,262.50, thanks to the generosity of supporters, family, friends and colleagues.

Every donation helps Hope Against Cancer continue funding vital cancer research and supporting projects that improve lives.

Knowing that their efforts would make a genuine difference gave every participant extra motivation throughout the weekend.

Why Challenge the Wild Matters

While the physical challenge was demanding, everyone agreed that the greatest reward came after crossing the finish line.

The event proved that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when they work together.

It also showed that fundraising is about far more than collecting donations. It is about creating awareness, building stronger communities and making a positive impact.

For everyone involved, Challenge the Wild became a weekend they will never forget.

Looking Back on an Incredible Achievement

The team reflected on the experience with pride, laughter and plenty of memorable stories.

Although there were moments of exhaustion, aching muscles and difficult climbs, every participant agreed that taking part was worthwhile.

Several members even said they would happily take part again in the future.

Their willingness to volunteer, support each other and raise money perfectly reflects the values that Take Me believes in every day.
